Michael Dale

Michael Dale specializes in helping his first-year students in Watauga be(come) lost. He believes that meaningful learning happens when both teacher and student are willing to be vulnerable and share in the work of education together. Because of this, his classes are known for fostering a strong spirit of curiosity and critical examination.

Michael’s scholarship in leadership and educational studies has been published frequently in numerous books and top-tier journals.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and both his Master of Arts in Teaching and Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
