Watauga Student Accomplishments - 2023-24
Zayna Sheridan has published a collection of her poems, She Feels Enough with Bottlecap Press.
Dex Williams (24) is the Outstanding Watauga Student for Spring 2024. We are proud and delighted to see Dex graduate with their BS in Psychology and triple minor in Sustainable Development, Integated Experiential Learning and Non-Profit Management. They also clocked over 300 volunteers hours during this 23-24 academic year.
Caitlyn Hayes and Drake Dorson recieved Honorable Mention Awards in the A.R. Ammons Student Poetry Competition (open to all North Carolina colleges, university and community college undergraduates). Caitlyn’s poem is titled “My Pants Smell Like Pills.” Drake’s poem is titled “My Father’s War.”
Alexis Beittel's short story, “Pooling,” was published in the fall online edition of The Peel Review, Appalachian State’s award-winning student literary journal.
Adam Suggs won the JV National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) Championship at the Biennial Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament.
Allie Morgan (24) presented her paper "By Invitation Only: Anti-Americanism in Stoker's Dracula” at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Long Beach, California.
Emily Escobedo-Ramirez, Mariana Angeles Lemus, Zayna Sheridan and Dex Williams presented their research conducted with Prof. Holly Ambler "The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Engagement and Academic Motivation of College Students" at athe National Residential Society Annual Meeting.
